The team at Agriana has now been involved with seed multiplication within Poland for over 20 years. The company combines the expertise and experience of John Williams, Krzysztof Sulkowski, Bartosz Treder and Ola Szczukowska who specialize in technology, production, sales, logistics and business development.
Agriana is a joint partnership, combined with the Potato breeder from Holland C. Meijer BV and John Williams who is the President of the Board of Agriana and has a total of 32 years experience within the Potato industry within Europe.
C. Meijer B.V.
C. Meijer B.V. is a private owned Dutch potato breeding company that is established back in 1920. The company is breeding potato varieties for the table, French fry and crisp segment.
In the variety portfolio the best known varieties bred by the company are:
- Lady Alicia, Lady Claire, Lady Rosetta (crisp varieties)
- Acoustic (table, organic variety), Melody (table potato), Jazzy (table, salad variety)
- and Lady Anna (French fry variety)
The breeding program is managed with a vision only to develop varieties that have added value for the whole potato chain. Without added value a variety has no future.
The innovative potato varieties of C. Meijer B.V. are sold and used worldwide as high quality seed potatoes or produced under license. The activities of the company take place in some fifty countries. What we do
Agriana has identified the most appropriate potato varieties which suit the Polish climate and over the last few years we have been introducing Meijer varieties through a licence agreement before we formed the new company. We work with customers to optimise their profitability from seed, chip stock, French fry and Table production. The main advantage is the fact that Meijer table varieties show excellent resistance to drought and very strong plants which stay greener for longer. This leads to higher saleable yields within the size expected by the Polish supermarket for example.
In terms of table varieties we offer the complete range from earliest in the form of Obama and second earliest in the form of Musica followed by Orchestra. Melody variety however, is ideal both for washing and peeling. It is also great for long term storage. All varieties which demonstrate early growth and size before the dry conditions come to Poland in July and August. In terms of the salad market we have a specialise variety which is called Jazzy which produces many tubers resulting in smaller fractions for specialist customers and the usual 42-70mm for the traditional salad market within Poland. Jazzy is the example of innovation. The variety can be eaten in the skin and is ready to eat in 10 -12 minutes. The variety has a wonderful taste which is being confirmed in Poland as it has won the first price as best tasting potato variety of Poland during the National Potato Day in 2015 and 2 years ealier, in 2013, Orchestra won the same competition.
